NEW SINGLE ANOTHER FLAVOUR OF NORMAN’S NEW ALBUM
With a brand new album well in the works, and an ever-growing fanbase awaiting its release, NORMAN BORLAND has treated fans to another flavour of what to expect with his latest single, WORKING WOMAN (written by Jerry House).Recorded once again under the expert-eye of Brian Kerrigan at Harmony Recording Studio in Donegal, fans of Irish country music might remember the track from Mick Flavin’s 2017 collection, Country And Gospel. Indeed, that’s where it first came to Norman’s attention as well…
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Mick’s, that’s why it was such an honour to record our version of ‘The Little Mountain Church’ with him last year. We got such a brilliant response to that single from fans, and amazing support from radio too. It’s had well over 4oo plays along the way. I’ve always listened to Mick’s work, as a fan first and foremost, but with my professional hat on as well, I suppose. And I remember loving ‘WORKING WOMAN’ the very first time I heard it on Mick’s ‘Country And Gospel’ album. It went straight into the notebook as one to take into the studio sometime. And that time finally came around while working on this new album.”
The last year or so has seen Norman become one of the busiest recording artists on the Irish country scene, with WORKING WOMAN set to become his seventh single in that time. As well as his aforementioned duet with Mick Flavin, there was also his Friends Like Us duet with Patricia Maguire, Ain’t NoLittle Thing which featured Gerry Guthrie, as well as Broken The Line, Loving You’s Like Coming Home, and Healing Hands.
“What can I say”, laughs Norman, “I love the studio! Apart from being on stage and in front of an audience, that’s my happy place!”
While most of the new album – so far untitled – is already in the can, he might not be finished in the studio just yet…
“Well I thought we were finished, but at the same time, I was asking myself was there another piece to this jigsaw that I still needed to find to make it the complete picture of what I wanted the album to be. Then, out of the blue recently, a really wonderful opportunity presented itself to work with someone who is a genuinely gifted songwriter. I won’t say too much about it just yet, because everything is still a work in progress right now. But we’re going through some of his songs at the moment, and for a guy like me, who prides himself on being a traditional country singer singing good old-fashioned country songs…let me tell ya, I’m in my element. These songs are something else. We’ve definitely found the perfect way to make the new album complete.”
With that new long-player now likely to come our way early in 2022, WORKING WOMAN offers fans not just a flavour of what to expect from that collection, but a reminder of the kind of artist Norman is…a country singer singing country songs. And that’s exactly the kind of country singer we all like best.
